Founded in 2004, School of Art Design and Media has 5 departments including Department of Visual Communication, Department of Environmental Design, Department of Product Design, Department of Digital Media Art and Department of Media, and 6 undergraduate programs including Environmental Design, Visual Communication Design, Product Design, Digital Media Arts, Advertising, Network and New Media. Having developed for more than 10 years, the school has formed distinctive professional characteristics and stable school-running scale. Now there are more than 1600 students.
School of Art Design and Mediahas a strong faculty team of 69 full-time teachers, among which there are 18 professors and associate professors, and 11 teachers are with Ph. D Degree or working on it. In recent years, with strong teaching and scientific researching ability, the teachers have established 24 school-level excellent and high quality courses, won 13 Teaching Achievement prizes, and more than 70 teachers have won the Teaching Quality prize. Our school has undertook 1 scientific research project of Ministry of Education, 7 scientific research projects of Hubei Province, 6 educational and scientific research projects of the Education Department of Hubei Province, more than 67 school-level teaching and scientific research projects and transverse projects. 40 textbooks and monographs and 150 papers (including 61 in core journals) are edited and published
With well-equipped facilities, our laboratories are ideal places for cultivating students’ practical skills and innovative ability. There are 8 practical training rooms and digital media and virtual art training center, including Video Production, Graphic Production, Pottery Making, Product Model, Design Model and Studio, VR practical training room and silk-screening printing room. Meanwhile, we have built on-campus research institute with enterprises and off-campus practice bases at Guangdong Bangzet Electronics Co., Wuhan Manwei Culture Media Co., Shenzhen Anxing Decoration Design Engineering Co.(WuHan Branch) ,Wuhan Eastime Advertising Art Co.,etc.
Focusing on students’ practical innovation ability and professional skills training, our school has established 3 scientific research and practical platforms including "1957 design center”, traditional craft production and training base, and Banzet Research Institute. 1957 design center has 6 departments, including Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, Product Exchange Design, Digital Media Design, Advertising Planning and New Media Design. The design center is based on practical teaching, driven by great domestic and international design competitions. It adopts MBP, and excellent students will be periodically elected to join the project group and professional teachers will guide them to have practical training, joining in professional competitions and international cooperation study on- and-off campus. In recent years,22 students have been awarded the excellent thesis for bachelor degree of Hubei Province, and over 30 college students' school-level scientific research projects have been completed. Moreover, our students have won more than 200 prizes at provincial level and above and the industry's top competitions, such asthe 2nd prize forNational College Students Industrial Design Competition, the 3rd prize for National College Student Advertising Art Competition, gold medal for University Fine Arts and Design Exhibitionof Hubei Province,gold medal forOne Show“Golden Pencile”China Youth Awards,silver medal for TimesYoung CreativeAwards, silver medal forChinese University Yacht Design Competitionand excellent award for Kia Auto Design Competition, etc.. Besides, 54 projects have been granted national invention patents and design patents, and some innovative achievements have been transformed into enterprise production projects.
The school actively pushes international communication and cooperation. In 2017,we have established a cooperation relationship with some foreign universities in Britain, America and Taiwan, and we have reached an agreement on the uniform proposition of graduation design, exhibition of product exchange and communication between teachers and students, which has laid a foundation for joint cultivation and further study abroad.
In June 2017, the school has founded “Art Donation” that is affiliated to the education fund of our college, and it is used to subsidize excellent students,award outstanding teachers who have made great achievement in teaching and scientific researches and improve the teaching and research facilities of our college by incomes of selling their own art products and social donation for students.
Adhering to the principle of "cultivation of students as the essence, and good quality as the priority”, our school standardizes teaching management, carries out teaching reform actively, and pays attention to students' individualized education. Over these years, the average employment rate of graduates has reachedover 92%, the self-employment rate over 5%, and many graduates have been admitted to well-known universities at home and abroad such as Wuhan University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Hunan University, Central South University, Wuhan University of Technology, University of Southampton (UK), Oakland University (New Zealand) and so on for postgraduate education.
