HXIT teachers and students recently visited the Hankou Cultural and Sports Center in Wuhan, Hubei Province, to make lanterns with kids and parents and to experience the joyful atmosphere of the traditional festival.
Team leader Chen Jun explained the origin, meaning, and production process of lanterns to the young people and parents who attended the event at the Jianghan District Library Jinqiao Academy. The team volunteers guided the kids as they learned the Chinese painting technique of ink blowing, which involves blowing the ink dry, cutting it with a paper cutter, and then pasting it into traditional lanterns. They were excited to show off their handcrafted lanterns to the crowd, and their faces were filled with joy.
Furthermore, He Hui, a product design student and vice captain of the school's intangible culture heritage team, also led the children in the creation of painting fans. Chen Jun led the teachers and students in writing spring couplets, and Lu Lili introduced traditional tie-dye to the youth and parents, teaching them how to make it by hand and experience this unique and fun craft firsthand. Teachers and students of the team had a rewarding and meaningful winter break with their peers.

"We hope that these initiatives, which were inspired by interest, will gain some attention, bring children and young people closer to intangible cultural heritage, enhance young people's understanding of intangible cultural heritage in a fun and educational way, and contribute to the promotion and transmission of intangible culture heritage." said Chen Jun. At last, Chen Jun and the kids showed the lanterns together..
