first lecture of A Glimpse of World Civilization

In the evening of March 7, the first lecture of the general education course "Glimpses of World Civilizations", led by the International Affairs Office, was held in the Academic Lecture Hall. The chairman of HXIT, teachers and more than 700 students went on a journey of world civilization.

The course was elaborated by a team of teachers from Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Technology and HXIT who have overseas study or work experience. The first lecture of the course was given by Professor Yu Jia, Associate Professor of Wuhan University of Technology, School of Marxism.

Yu Jia introduced the theme of the course with "civilization and culture" as the starting point, and emphasized the difference between "civilization" and "culture" by showing the understanding of different scholars on "civilization and culture". Covering three continents in space, including Europe, Asia and Africa, and involving many civilizations such as ancient Greece, ancient India and ancient China, the course outlining a historical picture of the ancient East and West.

Zheng Yan of class 1225, majoring in network and new media, said that after listening to this lecture, she benefited a lot, not only understanding ancient Chinese philosophical ideas such as "five elements", but also gaining a deeper understanding of Greek and Indian mythology, and she was very interested in this course and was looking forward to the content later.

 

It is understood that "Glimpses of World Civilizations" is a general elective course of humanities and arts, with a total of 24 credit hours, and is open to all students. Xiao Fenghua, the course leader, said that the course "Glimpses of World Civilization" cultivates students' scientific view of the world, opens students' global vision, helps students explore the basic laws of the changes in human society and the rise and fall of civilization history. Besides, it can help students understand the characteristics and development rules of the world's major civilizations, origins and evolution, the conflicts and interactions among civilizations, so that they can meet the demand for new social talents with cross-cultural understanding and interaction skills in the context of globalization.
