On April 2nd, 2023, Li Shan and Wang Yuanyuan, teachers from Civil Engineering and Architecture, led representatives of the Civil Engineering 1195 class to participate in a cultural exchange activity organized by Professor Huang Mingzhi from the School of Management at Wuhan University of Technology.

The international students who attended the event were from Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia, and they admired Chinese culture and learned Chinese actively. When meeting with Chinese students, they used Chinese and English to communicate together. Student Yang Shenao and Hu Huangkun from the Excellent Talents Experimental Class took the initiative to add the international students as WeChat friends and introduced them to the special cities and local cuisine of Hubei. The international students expressed that they had experienced the severe cold winter and snowy days in Wuhan, which they don't have in their own countries with such a large temperature difference and cold weather.

Vietnamese international student Wu Huangshan showed his graduate course schedule and research topics with his phone. He said that he is currently studying engineering management at Wuhan University of Technology and plans to participate in high-speed rail construction projects after graduation. Lin Jinfeng from Cambodia is proficient in four languages and is currently a second-year graduate student. She warmly invited everyone to visit Cambodia and experience the local Buddhist culture, especially recommending a visit to Angkor Wat.
The exchange activity lasted for nearly four hours, and both sides gained a lot. Li Shan said that this kind of cultural exchange activity can deepen the understanding of our faculty and students about neighboring countries, and also respond to the national "Belt and Road" Initiative. Through language, residence, natural ecological environment, food, profession, leisure, and entertainment exchanges, students can broaden their horizons, improve their English speaking skills, and enhance their cultural confidence.
