Yu Qianying, a 2024 undergraduate from the School of Physical Education, has claimed three honors at the 2026 National Collegiate Wushu Routine Championship (Group A & B) under the guidance of coach Ning Mengru. The tournament was held in Wuqing District, Tianjin, from July 28 to August 4.Yu finished third in Men’s Group A-B Health Qigong, sixth in Baji Quan and ninth in optional cudgel.

Hosted by the China Student Sports Federation, the event brought together nearly 1,500 athletes from 282 universities and colleges nationwide. As the only competitor representing HXIT, Yu began a six-month preparation cycle ahead of the event. He remained on campus for intensive summer training, took part in joint sessions with the Wushu team of Wuhan Institute of Technology, and received full guidance from his coach both online and in person. He delivered a calm, steady performance across all three disciplines.

“The rankings are a nice surprise, but the experience and exposure from this national competition are far more valuable,” Yu said post-match. He thanked his coach and teammates for their support, He pledged to further hone his Wushu skills and carry forward thus promote traditional Wushu. Liu Tao, Dean of the School of Physical Education, noted that the achievement reflects the School’s “practice-oriented education” results. The School will further deepen the integration of competition and training to support student growth and carry forward Wushu culture, Liu added.
