On the afternoon of March 13, HXIT held a forum titled “Listen to Youth Voices, Promote ‘Five Abilities’ Growth” at Wutonghu Campus. Hosted by Zhang Li, Dean of the School of Marxism, the forum was attended in person by HXIT Chairman Zhang Xiaodong, who engaged in face-to-face communication with students. Also in attendance were deputy directors of relevant departments, teacher representatives, counselors, and student representatives from all schools.
At the forum, Dean Zhang Li delivered an opening speech, introducing Chairman Zhang Xiaodong’s long-standing dedication to education and his profound care for youth development. She highlighted the “Five Abilities” system—the ability to think, learn, communicate, practice, and live—initiated and promoted by Chairman Zhang. Drawing on his rich experience in education governance, Chairman Zhang then elaborated on HXIT’s core talent cultivation philosophy: to nurture well-rounded applied talents equipped with sound personality, humanistic care, scientific spirit, professional competence, global vision, and the “Five Abilities” He emphasized that undergraduate education serves as the cornerstone for students’ lifelong development, equipping them to meet future challenges.
In the interactive session, student representatives raised questions on thinking value in the AI era, balancing study and life, and cultivating practical skills. Chairman Zhang answered patiently and offered targeted guidance on the “Five Abilities”, while putting forward requirements for teaching reform. At the conclusion of the forum, he presented the book Xi Jinping and His Friends from College Students to students, encouraging them to read more extensively and practice more actively. He also interacted warmly with students and signed autographs for them after the event concluded.
Zhang Li noted, that the forum clarified HXIT’s educational philosophy and guided students toward all-round development. HXIT will optimize curricula and enrich activities to further advance the cultivation of the “Five Abilities”.
