On October 30, 2023, the 16th National University Structural Design Competition concluded successfully at Changsha University of Science and Technology in Hunan. The team from HXIT Civil Engineering, with their outstanding performance, clinched the first prize and also received an award for excellent organization, marking our best performance in history.

It's worth noting that this competition is one of the nine major academic competitions in the country and is the highest-level, largest-scale, and most prestigious innovation competition for students in the field of civil engineering. The competition attracted over a thousand teams from universities nationwide, and after fierce competition, a total of 118 universities and 119 teams advanced to the final round.

The competition focused on a real engineering problem, simulating a bridge pier collision accident. Teams had to draw design parameters by lot, conduct on-site calculations, create structural models, and perform tests. This innovative competition format increased the challenge and suspense of the event. Furthermore, unlike previous editions, this competition utilized a new method of loading with multiple rows of vehicles produced by 3D printing, enhancing the visual appeal.

Under the guidance of Professor Jin Banghu, HXIT's participating team completed various stages, including designing the solution, creating the model, expert evaluation, presentation, and on-site load testing, all within four days, ultimately winning the first prize.

This achievement showcases how HXIT integrates innovative education into teaching reform and practical activities, nurturing students' innovative spirit and practical abilities. HXIT will continue to strengthen the management of academic competitions, aiming to continually produce highly skilled and innovative civil engineering professionals with practical capabilities for the whole nation.
