On the morning of September 26, construction officially commenced on the Wutonghu New Campus of HXIT, marking the first university in the Wutonghu area of Liangzihu District. This project is a significant step for Ezhou, as it initiates the development of a high-standard science, education, culture, and livable area in Wuhan New Town, promoting the coordinated growth of university campuses, industrial parks, and urban areas.

The HXIT Wutonghu New Campus is located in the core area of Wutonghu Ecological Science and Education City, with a total land area of 1,000 mu. Upon completion, the institute will operate using a dual-campus model. The distance between the two campuses is about 36 kilometers, which translates to a 30-minute drive.

Reports indicate that Wutonghu Park in Liangzihu District has planned nine university construction sites in total. To support the development of these projects, Gaoxin 8th Road, the main road connecting the nine university sites with Wuhan, was upgraded in April this year.

In recent years, Ezhou’s Wutonghu New Area has focused on three main industrial functions: science and education, culture and technology, and ecological livability. These areas align with the district’s induistrial foundation and development needs. The area is also being developed into a specialized "science, education, and culture livable area," with efforts to attract key enterprises in sectors such as intelligent manufacturing, biotechnology, optoelectronics, and medical equipment. As of August this year, 11 major projects, each with an investment exceeding 100 million yuan, had been signed in Wutonghu New District, marking an 83.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The total investment reached 6.13 billion yuan, reflecting a 65.2% increase year-on-year.
