Recently, Baxiang Village in Sichuan’s Yi Autonomous County—an expanse steeped in centuries of Yi agrarian wisdom—has entered its golden harvest season. Members of HXIT’s “Life Beauty·Refueling Station” Mabian Summer Team rushed here and worked side-by-side with Yi villagers to harvest corn.

Wang Zhifu, Party Secretary of Baxiang Village, explained that Qiao Jigangan’s household, a typical Yi farming family, faced a critical window for corn harvest and husking, yet lacked sufficient labor. On hearing this, the volunteers stepped forward without hesitation.

In the fields, Qiao demonstrated the picking technique: grip the cob firmly and snap it downward along the stalk. Bending low, the students ignored the itchy sting of serrated leaves; soon, baskets of corn lined the field edge. After a short rest, they turned to husking. Guided by Qiao’s mother—who advised stripping the tough outer leaves and keeping the tender inner ones—Zhang Zihan admitted, “These ears look small, but they’re surprisingly tough to husk.”

Program adviser Liu Jingxiang called the experience “a vivid portrait of youthful energy taking root in an Yi village and powering rural revitalization.” By laboring alongside local farmers, the students felt the toil behind every kernel and grasped the resilience and ingenuity of Yi agrarian culture, allowing their youth to shine in the larger cause of national unity and rural renewal.
