On April 1, a unique charity fair was held on the basketball court of HXIT. Centered around recycled clothing donations and creative design products, the event built a bridge of care between students, faculty, and individuals with intellectual disabilities, fostering a two-way flow of goodwill.

Organized by the HXIT’s Youth League Committee and supported by volunteers  of all schools, the fair saw volunteers engage with “Star Kids” — a nickname for young people with autism — in drawing, basketball, riddles, and a stamp-collecting prize game. These relaxed, joyful interactions helped the Star Kids gain confidence and happiness, making them active participants and true experiencers of the event.

The Qinghe Creative Team, composed of visual communication design students from HXIT’s School of Art and Design, turned original artworks created by Star Kids into keychains, bookmarks, which are aesthetically pleasing, heartfelt products. Production costs were covered by a used-item recycling platform in partnership with the team. Together, they realised a mutually empowering model where “Star Kids provide the original art, the HXIT provides the design” .

With the help of volunteers, three representatives of Star Kids actively took part in the used-clothing collection process. Unlike traditional one-way assistance, they are no longer just recipients of aid, but active contributors and value creators in the public welfare initiatives.

That day, the HXIT community responded enthusiastically, donating about 100 kilograms of used clothes. Going forward, the recycling platform will replace standard giveaway items with these specially designed creative products in community gift exchanges — helping more people see and support the Star Kids community through small, meaningful objects.

Many students and faculty stated that the initiative not only promotes the recycling of idle clothing and green living, but also offers tangible help to the Star Kids community with autism while revealing their potential and value — making it deeply meaningful.
